Stampin' Up! has just released "Sweet Pressed", the cutest cookie stamps. These can be used on ready to bake dough or freshly made dough. Click on the picture of more details. I'm thinking these might work great for handmade paper pulp to make darling ornaments or card/package embellishments (since I'm gluten free and I can't stand the temptation of having shortbread or sugar cookies in the house). Hmm, I'll get back to you on that.

Sadly, I have been too distracted this years so far, between preparing our home for the real estate market and with Jewel Kade - which I resigned from*, to make samples using any of the SAB or Occasions mini-catalog products. So I have uploaded to my Shutterfly account quite a lot of jpg samples created by various Stampin' Up! demonstrators from all over. *Why did I resign from Jewel Kade already, less than 2 months after signing up? Upon close inspection, I found that the product was not what I was expecting. Therefore, I decided that being a "stylist" for Jewel Kade was not for me.

CLEAR MOUNT STAMPS NOT STICKING?

We've had some discussion going on in my Stampin' Up! upline's Yahoo group about the clear mount stamps not sticking to the clear blocks. There were lots of great suggestions as to how to remedy that little annoyance. Below is what I compiled this AM. You can click here to print the Word doc of what I compiled.

Remember, the clear-mount stamps from Stampin' Up! are made of the same high quality rubber as their wood-mount stamps. They have been adapted for clear block mounting with self-clinging labels. The clear-mount stamp sets are more economical since you don't have to pay for new blocks with every set. I love this! They are also a major space saver. Don't know about you, but my crafting space is quite limited.

How to Make Clear Mount Stamps Stick to Blocks: Suggestions from “Udderly Awesome” Demos

"Make sure that the block is very clean, with no finger oils or anything on it. If it still won't stick you can try one of these 2 suggestions: 1) Put a tiny dab of water on the sticker side of the stamp and then press the block onto it with good pressure. Or 2) Put a few little dots of Tombow glue on the stamp and let it sit overnight - Stampin' Up said that it will come off when you are through."

"If the block and/or clear part of the stamp (with the pic on it) is cold or chilled, it will not stick to the clear block. You have to warm it up a bit with your hands.  I have had to do this several times and it has always worked."

"I wipe my clear block with a damp cloth and then put the stamp on and it stays.  Works like a suction."

"I have also just put a little tiny bit of DOTTO onto the block if the stamp is not sticking and the stamp stays on really well."

"The one thing I do when mounting a clear mount stamp to the block is:  Rub the BLOCK on my pant leg or shirt sleeve back and forth about 10 times really rapidly ... that takes off any dust, oils, whatever and it tends to heat it up just a tiny bit … then with the rubber piece on my table, STICKER SIDE UP, just place the block down onto the rubber stamp and press for at least the count of 5 or 10. It takes a few seconds to really press them together good. I have never had a stamp fall off the clear block or had any trouble when doing the above."

"One thing I've been doing with the sticker is to trim the sticker as close as possible to the design and then put it on the rubber piece. Very often this gives you a little border around the image so that you have that added cling effect of no sticker around the edge, but you still have the image."

"I have decided to leave the labels off. It just doesn't stick as well with the label since it's no longer a "rubbery" surface."

THE STAMPER

This might sound familiar.

I started out with just one stamp
and when I bought some more
I decided that a shoebox
would make an ideal store.

Then as I added inks and pens
my stamping collection grew
so I bought a roomy plastic crate
it would last for years, I knew.

Embossing then became my thing
with powders and heat gun,
metallics, tinsels, pearls and clear,
I soon had every one.

By now my lovely plastic crate
was spilling everywhere
and my glitter glue collection
lay scattered on a chair

My husband started muttering
and said things had to stop
So I bought a huge old wardrobe
at the local charity shop.

But after just a little while,
I couldn't shut the door
and I put shelves up in the spare room
To accommodate yet more.

Our house is now for sale,
something larger being sought,
By the way, did I show you
the latest stamp I bought . . .

Valentine Card for My Honey

Whew! I'm finally feeling better after nearly 3 weeks of fighting the worst chest/head cold that I can remember ever having. I hate being sick 'cause my creativity gets congested too. The first thing I chose to make is a card for my husband since tomorrow is Valentine's day - especially since our 14th anniversary was Jan. 29th and I wasn't able to create anything for him for that.

  Here's a scan the card front. I've also uploaded several other shots of the card - opened and some details -  into my Cricut Projects and my Stampin' Up! projects albums. The (retired) "cherish" rub-on  and all of the papers are Stampin' Up!: Textured Riding Hood Red and textured Chocolate Chip, Candy Lane and Riding Hood Red designer series papers. I also used the Stampin' Up! Eyelet Border punch and the Heart to Heart punch. I used my Cricut with George/Basic Shapes cartridge to cut all of the other hearts. I could have used the Full Heart Punch for all of the medium sized hearts (striped center front heart and inside), but I used the Cricut so I could shadow them using Chocolate Chip. This card was a lot of fun to make and my husband lovesit. I have to mention though that I got the general design from the latest Cricut Chirp newsletter. (In case you belong to the Cricut Community, here's the link to the card that was my inspiration.) I put my own spin on the card. Oh, the stamp I used inside I bought probably 12 years ago and I have no clue who it's by or where I got it.

Classes Coming!

Please be patient with me. I've been really sick with a head/chest cold since January 25th. I'm not sneezing anymore, but my head/chest are still so congested that my creative juices just aren't flowing. I'm really foggy. All of my new Stampin' Up! Designer Series papers and stamp sets, etc. are calling my name and saying "come play with me!" I wish I could! Soon!

Anyway, I am planning lots of classes - brainstorming ideas - that I'll offer ASAP. I am still compiling my list of ideas for my upcoming classes. Technique/Project Video on my Stampin' Up! Website

As of today, my Stampin' Up! website, linked at the top right corner of this blog, has a terrific technique/project video. This new monthly feature has been long awaited. Stampin' Up! has quite a few technique/project training videos available on the demonstrator-only portion of their national website (a benefit of being a demonstrator). It wasn't until today that they added videos to our personal Stampin' Up! demonstrator websites. I'm quite excited about this. Since I don't yet have a way to make my own, I'll be sure to refer you to these videos as they become available. I have linked the video page on my left sidebar at the top. Here's a sneak peek of the projects demonstrated in the October video.  OK, so you're not into skulls or Halloween. Me either, but it's still a great video to see how certain techniques were done that can be used with other images and colors. I'm sure you'll be glad you took 5 minutes to watch!

Note: For those of my readers who have not yet met me, the demonstrator in the video(s) is not me. I'll try to get a current photo of myself posted to my "about" page ASAP. My most recent picture is not so great. I had sun poisoning and my face was pretty blistered. Not pretty.

Big Bang for the Buck - Stamps 4 Sale

Even though I am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, over the years I have acquired a collection of non-SU! stamps. Some I got before I became a demonstator, but many I got while I was teaching rubber stamping classes at The Tall Mouse Store in Yorba Linda.

I already sold a lot of the stamps a few years ago, but I am ready to find new homes for a lot of the items I have left. They are all priced to sell. Prices are as marked on the pictures. Bulk buyers: I'll consider a discount on selected higher dollar items. Shipping is additional and will at be my actual cost, whatever the cheapest method is. I do not add handling fees.

New Card Class at JoAnn's

In honor of World Card Making Day I have a card class scheduled for October 2nd at 6:30 PM and forOctober 3rd at 10:00 AM. Below is one of the cards we'll be making - a head start on our holiday cards.  Not all of the cards are holiday themed. Check out my photo album, WCMD Class Samples, for the 4 cards we'll be making. You can also see these cards on display at the JoAnn's where I teach. I will provide all of the materials and supplies for the this class. (You are welcome to bring other stamp images if you'd like.) Two of the cards feature Sizzix dies, which are carried by Stampin' Up! as well as JoAnn's. The sample here uses theStampin' Up! scallop edge punch, which will not be available for the class, but lots of terrific Fiskar's edge punches will be on hand for you to try in addition to the Sizzix dies. Both the dies and the punches are so much fun!

I need at least 2 people, but would prefer at least 4 so please get your friends to sign up too. My JoAnn's classes are held either in the store classroom or in the scrapbooking department (if the sewing class needs the room).

If you are a die-hard Stampin' Up! fan and prefer not to use anything else, as I know some of you are, I'd be happy to offer this class using only SU! products, at your place or mine. However, I will need a minimum of 4 people for a private SU! class. Check with your friends and we can set a date.

World Card Making Day

Join me in celebrating World Card Making Day (WCMD)at JoAnn's October 2nd and 3rd. We'll be creating several greetings cards you'll be proud to send to a loved one. I'll post sneak peeks of the samples next week sometime. We'll use various techniques and materials that will be sure to please the beginner and the expert card maker. Be sure to visit the WCMD website for information about the "holiday" and to see some great projects shared by card makers from all over.

OK, I'm off to finish making all of my card fronts (mine and other's from various swaps) into full cards. I'm participating in a Craft Fair September 27th and will be offering these cards (100's of them) for really great prices. Trust me, these cards are not easy to let go of as they are all something I'd love to send to a loved on. However, I simply don't have room for them all in my ever more crowded office. Be sure to come to the craft fair to pick up some of my cards and other paper crafted items as well as to check out what the other crafters/artists will be offering. Today's Techniques: Marker to Rubber

Today's tips may seem like no-brainers and really they are, but they are techniques I tend to forget about using, so I thought I'd remind you about them. These techniques allow you a lot more versatility with each of your stamp images. Have fun with these techniques!

Added note: Awesome! In visiting one of my favorite blogs this AM, I found Andrea Walford of Ontario, Canada has a fantastic tutorial with lots of step-by-step photos of how beautifully you can put the Maker to Rubber technique to use. Be sure to visit her posting for August 19th for this tutorial.  BTW, she uses one of the sets I have on order and is now on it's way to me. I can hardly wait to "CASE" Andrea.

Multiple Colors with Markers

1) Use a marker to apply color to the stamp. Ink only the part of the stamp you want in the first marker color.

2) Add other marker colors as desired to other parts of the image or blend another color to the already colored parts.

3) Once all parts are colored, "huff" a big breath onto the inked image to remoisten/reactivate the ink before stamping onto paper.

Tip: 1) Using the side, rather than the tip, of the brush tip of the marker will cover more area more quickly and leave fewer brush strokes. 2) For a more muted, watercolor look, spray a fine mist of water on the stamp instead of breathing on it.

Omitting with Markers

1) To omit a certain part of a stamp image, use a marker to apply ink only to the desired parts of the image.

2) "Huff" a big breath on the inked image to remoisten/reactivate the ink before stamping onto paper.

Tip: Use a Stamp-a-ma-jig stamp positioner if you want to perfectly center your image onto a pre-cut small piece of paper.

Note: Each marker features a fine tip at one end and a brush tip on the other. Stampin’ Up! markers can be purchased individually, by color family, or in a set of 48, which includes a handy storage case.

Still Love Rock N Roll!

. . . Rock N Roll rubber stamping technique that is.

This week's tip is simple but something you may not have thought of or you simply forgot about. It really gives dimension to your stamped image without having to cut it out and pop it out with mounting tape or layering it. I don't know about you, but I'm not a terrific "cutter-outter", so I love to use this technique. Directly from the Stampin' Up! demonstrator website . . . Drum Roll Please!

Rock & Roll:    

1) Tap stamp on light-colored ink pad.

2) Press edges of stamp in a rolling motion on darker ink pad, being careful not to ink the center of the stamp.

Tips:

1) Always use the lightest colored ink first to avoid getting dark ink on your light ink pad.

2) This technique works best when using a bold stamp image.

You will love this technique because it creates a fun visual image with very little effort. Different colors create the look of depth without any extra layers of paper. For easy pairing of colors that work well together with this technique, use the dynamic duos on the Color Coach.

Today's Technique: Emboss Resist

OK, so I haven't stuck to posting a "Weekly Tip", but that's due to an erratic work schedule. Sometimes I can't even remember what day it is. Because it's been so long since my last technique post, I now have a big note on my PC monitor to remind me to post my weekly tip/technique. After all, I start my day with my coffee in front of my PC.

Today I'd like to get back into the swing of things with a technique I demonstrated in a of couple workshops quite a while back. I LOVE doing this technique. It's so simple but really packs a punch. Quite the "Wow Factor" you might say. OK, enough intro. On to the technique.

Emboss Resist

Directions: 

1) Stamp the image with a clear embossing or VersaMark ink pad.

2) Heat emboss the image using Stampin' Emboss® clear embossing powder. Allow image to cool.

3) Apply ink with a sponge directly to the paper over and around the embossed image.

4) Wipe the embossed image with a tissue to remove the excess ink.

This technique takes the heat embossing technique one step further. Emboss resist adds color to a clear embossed image, making the image jump from the page. I'd love to see your creations using the Emboss Resist Technique. Have fun with it!

Color Combining Challenged?

Can't combine colors? Stuck in a rut using the same colors all the time like I can sometimes? Don't own the Stampin' Up! Color Coach yet?

Well, here's a tip: Look in your clothes closet. Look around your home. Look in all of those annoying (not so anymore) junk mail clothing, home decor or gardening catalogs.

What colors do you see that really inspire your creativity? Take that blouse or pillow or picture to your crafting spot. Hold your card stock up to that color inspiration and find what you have on hand or need to order to create that color combination for your next greeting card or scrapbook page layout or party favor, etc. You'll be surprised at what you find actually works together. I sure was!

This has really helped me in times of creative blocks. I've collected dozens of pictures from magazines and catalogs and I have put them in a sketch book. I'm in the process of going through my card stock supply and identifying which SU! colors match the best with the colors I see in each inspiring photo.
